Nature Matters in Time and Place
This is the fifth annual gathering of New Networks for Nature (N3), which takes place from Thursday 14 – Saturday 16 November 2013 at Stamford Arts Centre and Theatre
This three-day event brings together a potent mixture of poets and publishers, authors and artists, scientists and sculptors, conservationists and composers, to debate and discuss the key issues facing people, places and wildlife in Britain today – at what is proving to be a very challenging time.
Topics include ‘eating nature’, the issues with alien species, how to use social media to promote environmentalism, and what it means to be a naturalist in the 21st century.
The event will kick off with a unique opportunity to hear from the two of the biggest names in wildlife television, Bill Oddie and Chris Packham. These legendary naturalists have forthright opinions on many conservation issues, including the badger cull, putting an economic value on nature, and how to reconnect young people with the natural world.
Chaired by TV producer Stephen Moss and environmental historian Dr Rob Lambert, this promises to be a lively and entertaining session.
On Friday morning, there will be an ‘Any Questions’ style debate on the politics of nature conservation, chaired by scientist and author Professor Tim Birkhead. Our distinguished panel includes the man who invented the term wildlife gardening, Chris Baines; the Chief Executive of The Wildlife Trusts movement, Stephanie Hilborne OBE; former Labour Minister of the Environment Elliot Morley; and scientist and former NERC Director, Georgina Mace.
This, the largest and most ambitious New Networks for Nature event so far, promises to be challenging, provocative, stimulating and, above all, great fun.

New Networks for Nature (N3) is a broad alliance of creative people whose work draws strongly on the natural world.
